Very good article discussing potential regulation tied to the financial overhaul bill that would require a number of regulators to use XBRL as the "...uniform format to collect data from industry". Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif, has been working the government back channels for a while now touting XBRL as a key enabler to helping collect, store, disseminate and analyze financial information. It looks like he's pretty serious about going on record very soon with his intentions.
